DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
» YouTube Interview
For the longest time, I'd been thinking of making a film about a young man on a road trip through the desert, on his way to visit a lover from his past. But then, I went through a one-year period where four people who were very close to me all died rather suddenly. Two were killed from strokes, one was killed by a heroin overdose, and the other in a violent motorcycle crash. As I coped with the turmoil of emotions from these deaths, I revisited my past, and my childhood in the desert. I also wanted to embrace the creative force within myself and in nature, as a source of renewal in the midst of loss. The characters in Sun Kissed are like the people I knew, the people I've cared about, and to some degree, myself. In my attempt to understand love and loss, I came to realize that no matter how one lives life, it should be lived with the utmost passion and truthfulness to one's self. Passion and honesty are two of the themes of this new film, and hopefully I've managed to create a sense of how important they are to human life.
